Backstage Luxury Chalet is a remarkable five-bedroom mountain retreat that perfectly blends the charm of traditional Valais architecture with Heinz Julen’s distinctive contemporary design. Located on Luchernstrasse in Zermatt, the chalet enjoys a peaceful setting within easy walking distance of both the village centre and the Matterhorn Express gondola.

Built around an original 1940s Valais house, the chalet has been thoughtfully transformed with the addition of two striking upper storeys constructed from locally sourced larch and expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing. The result is an exceptional 320m² residence that combines authentic alpine character with modern luxury, while offering breathtaking panoramic views across Zermatt and towards the iconic Matterhorn.

Designed and furnished by renowned Zermatt architect Heinz Julen, the chalet showcases bespoke handcrafted furniture created in his own workshop, complemented by contemporary artworks and carefully selected natural materials. The dramatic open roof trusses create an impressive sense of space throughout the top floor, where the kitchen, dining and living areas come together beneath soaring vaulted ceilings. A central open fireplace provides a warm focal point, while the generous lounge and dining areas are perfectly suited to entertaining family and friends after a day on the mountain.

The fully equipped kitchen has everything required for preparing anything from relaxed breakfasts to gourmet dinners, whether guests choose a fully catered stay during the winter season, a catered breakfast service or complete flexibility with a self-catered holiday. The chalet offers the same bespoke service options as Backstage Luxury Loft, allowing each stay to be tailored to individual preferences.

The chalet accommodates up to ten adults and one child across five beautifully appointed bedrooms, each with its own television, Wi-Fi, private en-suite bathroom and balcony. Every bedroom has been individually designed to provide a luxurious and peaceful retreat while making the most of the spectacular alpine setting.

The second floor is home to three elegant double bedrooms, each featuring a stylish en-suite bathroom and a private balcony where guests can enjoy the fresh mountain air and views over the village. These spacious bedrooms offer a calm and inviting atmosphere, combining natural wood finishes with contemporary design.

On the third floor are two further double bedrooms, both equally spacious and beautifully furnished. One enjoys its own en-suite bathroom and private balcony, while the second also features an en-suite bathroom, balcony and an additional loft bed, making it an excellent choice for a couple travelling with a young child or for families requiring a little extra flexibility.

The chalet’s spectacular top floor is dedicated entirely to communal living and relaxation. The open-plan kitchen flows seamlessly into the dining area, where a table comfortably seats twelve guests, before leading into the spacious lounge with its large corner sofa and feature fireplace. Adjacent to the living area is the private wellness space, complete with a sauna and an extraordinary indoor and outdoor rooftop jacuzzi. Offering uninterrupted panoramic views across the rooftops of Zermatt to the majestic Matterhorn, this is undoubtedly one of the chalet’s most memorable features and an unforgettable place to unwind after a day on the slopes.

On the entrance level, guests will find a private home cinema and TV room, a fitness room, an additional shower room with WC, a ski room with heated boot warmers, staff facilities and a private lift serving every floor of the chalet. Families are also well catered for, with a high chair and cot available on request.

Additional features include Apple TV, DVD player, cable television, Sonos sound system, PlayStation, high-speed Wi-Fi throughout, a private lift, open fireplace, heated ski storage and complimentary access to the acclaimed Genesis wellness area at the nearby Backstage Hotel.
